Wanting to pay homage to the album art that is much lost in today’s digital music age, I created a tri-fold insert for this package rather than design a typical book insert. It opens up to reveal one long piece of artwork on one side, with all the lyrics and liner notes on the other.

When it comes to the design and illustration process, it’s always fun going full-circle from digital to traditional, and back to digital again.

First the illustration was designed and sketched digitally before being printed in non-photo blue-line, keeping in mind the tri-fold sections. It was then inked traditionally before being scanned and colored in Adobe Photoshop.

Rather than put the album title on the front as initially planned, I decided to keep the illustration pure and instead put the title on the inside of the tray artwork, which pops out from behind the left side of the insert.

I also video screen-captured the entire coloring process, sped it up and narrated over-top of it, discussing the process.
